Health Benefits of Chia Seeds

Chia seeds were cultivated by the Aztecs and Mayans as a sustainable energy source. They became really popular when Chia Pets were all the rage in the 80s, Ch-ch-ch-chia! Chia seeds are making a comeback once again because of their numerous health benefits.

  • Omega 3 – Chia seeds are really high in Omega 3s which will keep your brain healthy and reduce inflammation.
  • Fibre – Chia seeds are a fantastic way to sneak more fibre into your diet. They have a mild nutty flavor and can be consumed whole so you can sprinkle them on just about any meal from granola to salad.
  • Antioxidants – Chia seeds are very high in antioxidants that keep the fats in chia seeds from going rancid. Antioxidants fight free radical damage in your body which delays premature aging.
  • Protein – Chia seeds are an excellent source of protein. They contain a good balance of essential amino acids that will keep you feeling full and bursting with energy.
  • Bone Building – Chia seeds are high in bone building nutrients like calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.
