Superfood Trail Mix Recipe
Superfood Trail Mix contains a highly nourishing mix of nuts and superfoods that will provide you with lots of energy and health benefits. The crunchy nuts are complemented by chewy superfoods and rich raw cacao nibs making Superfood Trail Mix feel like an indulgent snack.
In my practice I find a lot of my clients struggle to find healthy snacks. My favourite snack to recommend to busy clients is Superfood Trail Mix, they can make a big batch and leave it in their car or at their desk without having to worry about it going bad.
Snacks must be high in healthy fats and protein for sustained energy and balanced blood sugar. Fat slows the absorption and digestion of carbohydrates into our bloodstream. This promotes blood sugar stabilization and provides a sustained energy source. The process of converting protein into energy is slower than converting carbohydrates into energy so it provides a longer-lasting energy source. Protein is also used to create insulin and the thyroid hormone that controls our metabolic rate.

Superfood Trail Mix Recipe
I’m using the term recipe very loosely here because the proportion of nuts to superfoods that you use is entirely up to you. I like to aim for a 50-50 split because I like to get both nuts and superfoods in every bite. You can also play around with the ingredients using whatever you have in your pantry.
Ingredients
Almonds – A great source of protein and fiber that contain lots of vitamins and minerals. They are associated with a number of health benefits like lowering cholesterol and supporting the heart health.
Walnuts – A superfood for brain health due to their high amount of vitamin E, folate, melatonin, omega-3 fats and antioxidants.
Goji Berries – Packed with cell supporting antioxidants and can help boost the immune system to protect against colds thanks to their high vitamin C content.
Black Mulberries – Also an excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants. They contain high amounts of bone-building calcium, oxygen transporting iron and blood sugar balancing fibre.
Golden Berries – An excellent source of vitamin A which plays a key role in vision health and the body’s immune system. They are also a great source of fiber which will keep your bowels moving.
Raw Cacao Nibs – Jam-packed with antioxidants contain muscle-relaxing magnesium and Phenylethylamine (PEA), which is the chemical known to inspire happiness, clear mindedness, focus and wakefulness.
Superfood Trail Mix is my go to pre-yoga snack. It contains lots protein to keep me feeling satiated during a yoga class along with fiber which slowly releases the sugar in the superfoods for long lasting energy.
