I was SO EXCITED when Joy asked me to review her cookbook. I LOVE her first cookbook Joyous Health so I was really looking forward to checking out her new cookbook Joyous Detox: Your Complete Plan and Cookbook to Be Vibrant Everyday.

If you have never done a detox, this book is perfect for you. It explains foods to avoid when detoxing, detoxifying superfoods and teaches you about detox lifestyle habit. It also contains a 2-day reboot plan and a full 10-day detox plan with options for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans.

Chocolate Chia Mousse from Joyous Detox

Chocolate Chia Mousse is always a crowd-pleaser because who doesn’t love chocolate mousse? You’ll love the creamy, silky texture minus refined sugar that your typical store-bought pudding contains.

(gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, refined sugar-free)

Prep time: 5 minutes | Inactive time: 5 hours| Serving size: 4

Ingredients

  • 4 Medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 can (14oz) full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • Optional garnishes – strawberries, raw cacao nibs, coconut flakes

Directions

  1. Soak dates in water to cover for 2 hours. Drain.
  2. In a high-speed blender or food processor, place dates, coconut milk, cacao powder, chia seeds, and maple syrup. Blend until fully combined. Pour pudding into individual serving bowls. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  3. Garnish with fresh strawberries, cacao nibs, and coconut flakes.

NOTE: Canned coconut milk is richer in fat than homemade coconut milk so after the mousse has thickened in the fridge, feel free to thin out the consistency by adding a little more coconut milk if desired. If the mousse is not thick enough, add more chia seeds.
