Did you know national cookie day was December 4th? I am so excited I got to celebrate this delicious day in a healthy way with a segment on The Morning Show on Global TV!

We all love cookies, especially around the holidays, but we don’t want to end up looking like Santa!

Using natural sugar substitutes like, dates, molasses, and honey are all a great way to health-i-fy your cookies without compromising on taste.

Lemon Oatmeal Cookies are amazing with a cup of tea in the morning.

Growing up my Grammy was known for her amazing cookies! Whenever we visited she would always have a bunch of cookie tins packed with cookies in the freezer. Before dinner (or when no one was looking…) we would open them all up and decide which cookies we wanted for dessert.  One of my favourite cookies she made was oatmeal lemon, so I decided it was time to create my own healthier version.

They are sweetened with honey which is antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiseptic. While honey is high in fructose, it has many health benefits and contains B vitamins, vitamin C, D and E.

Real Food Gingerbread Cookies are perfect for the holidays.

It took a couple of trials for my friend Sarah Bester to perfect these Gingerbread Men. She wanted to develop a cookie that doesn’t contain boatloads of sugar, is limited in processed ingredients and actually has some nutrients (bonus!). All while remaining a “treat” and a respectable Gingerbread Man that is unrecognizable as a “healthy alternative”. I think she achieved all of this with this recipe.

They are made with healthy ingredients like dates and blackstrap molasses. Dates are a fantastic sweetener because they are high in fibre which slows the release of sugar into our bloodstream. Blackstrap molasses is rich in energy producing iron and bone building calcium.

Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies are soft and chewy with crunchy cacao nibs and minty deliciousness.

Chocolate and peppermint really are a match made in heaven. They are the perfect treat to leave out for Santa because they won’t contribute to his ever expanding waistline. They are gluten freedairy free and sweetened with coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is almost half the glycemic index of regular sugar so it doesn’t spike your blood sugar.
