Make Dessert Healthier on TV
As a Holistic Nutritionist and recovering sugar-a-holic I’m all about sneaky ways to make dessert healthier. I used to be totally addicted to sugar but then I started seeing the negative impact it was having on my health. I still wanted to have my cake and eat it too, so I started playing around with making healthier desserts.
During my segment on Get Fit, Get Strong with Sally Leugn I teach you how you can make dessert healthier. The segment originally aired on August 18, 2016.
How to make dessert healthier
To make dessert healthier I do 3 things: add protein, fiber and natural sugar substitutes.
Protein makes desserts more nutrient dense and filling. When a dessert is high in protein it will make you feel full faster so you are much less likely to eat a whole tray of brownies because you will be too full. It is also great for those who workout and need protein to help with recovery.
Fiber is really important because it slows the digestion of the food along with the release of the sugar into your blood stream. When you eat a chocolate bar, for example, it gets digested really quickly and you get a sugar high followed by a slump. This is because oyour blood sugar levels spike. When you eat desserts high in fiber the sugar is slowly released into your blood stream so you avoid the sugar high and slump.
Natural sugar substitutes are a great way to health-i-fy your desserts because they contain more nutrients than regular sugar which is pretty much an anti-nutrient. Learn more about my fav natural sugar substitutes in my FREE guide.

Raw Black Forest Brownies
These are super quick and easy to make and taste gooey and delicious. These brownies are naturally sweetened with Medjool. Dates are awesome natural sweetener because they are an excellent source of fiber which slows the digestion of sugar into your bloodstream and helps keep you regular. Medjool dates also contain potassium which is important for maintaining electrolyte balance when working out. They also contain magnesium which is great for relaxing sore muscles.

Raw Lemon Cheesecake
Raw Lemon Cheesecake is creamy and luscious with a hint of tart sourness from the lemons. The base is a gluten free mix of almonds and coconut and the silky vegan filling is made with lemons, cashew butter and sweetened with stevia.
This recipe is on pg 29 of my cookbook Healthy Dairy Free Desserts.
As I mentioned, both of these recipes are from my cookbook Healthy Dairy Free Desserts which contains over 30 recipes with vibrant pictures and healthy baking substitutes so you can have your cake and eat it too!
All of the unique recipes are nutritionist approved, made with whole food ingredients and do not contain any soy, dairy, white flour or processed sugar.
Jesse Lane Wellness Cookbook: Healthy Dairy Free Desserts also contains a guide to healthy baking substitutes and alternative sugars, so you can learn how to turn your family favourites into healthy desserts.
