How to make a Chia Egg Video
Making a chia egg is super easy!
All you have to do is mix 1 Tbsp ground chia seeds with 3 Tbsp warm water and let it sit for a few minutes.
One chia egg can easily be substituted for one regular egg in baking. As an added bonus chia seeds are super healthy and will add clean sweeping fibre and brain boosting omega 3s to your baking.

If you don’t have chia seeds on hand, you can also use ground flaxseeds. One thing I will warn you about, chia eggs don’t work so well with gluten free baking. It usually results in something crumbly, unless the recipe has been created with a chia egg in mind and another binding ingredient has been added.
I use chia eggs in a lot of the recipes in my cookbook Jesse Lane Wellness Healthy Dairy Free Desserts! In fact, 17 of the recipes in my cookbook are vegan and some use chia eggs like the Oatmeal Cookie Truffles.
Here is a breakdown:
- All of the recipes are dairy free, soy free, & vegetarian
- 26 of the recipes are gluten free
- 17 of the recipes are vegan
- 17 of the recipes are paleo
- 12 of the recipes are sugar-free
Thanks!! I’m glad to have an alternative to flax. I actually find that flax (and maybe I’m not doing correctly) egg sub feels slimy like okra slime in my cooking. I’m hoping chia does not. It doesn’t in my shakes so I doubt it! Excited to try your recipes!
Hi Cris, I’m so happy you liked the video! I find chia is less slimy and I don’t notice it in baking at all. I hope you have fun using it in recipes!
