Blood Sugar-Balancing Holiday Desserts on Global TV

After a three-year hiatus, I’m thrilled to be back on Global News to share my Blood Sugar-Balancing Holiday Desserts. The segment aired on December 1, 2023, and if you missed the segment live, you can watch it here.

Over the holidays, we all love to indulge in festive treats. It can be hard to maintain a healthy diet during this time. Luckily, there are some simple tips we can follow to make our family favourites a little more healthy. By adding protein, fiber and healthy fats to our baking, we can make treats that have a lower impact on our blood sugar levels. This, in turn, can help to improve our sleep, energy, immune system, digestion and weight.

Not only do these ingredients make our treats healthier, but they also make them more filling! This means that we are less likely to eat all of the cookies at once. With that being said, if you’re interested in learning how to make these recipes and more, I highly recommend signing up for my Team-Building Holiday Virtual Cooking Classes. Not only are they an excellent way to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit, but they’re also an immersive virtual holiday party.

Candy Cane Carob Bark by @JesseLWellness #christmas

Blood Sugar Balancing Holiday Desserts

Candy Cane Bark

Candy Cane Carob Bark melts in your mouth and the candy cane pieces sprinkled throughout the carob bark bring a satisfying peppermint crunch. This recipe is full of healthy fat in the form of coconut oil. Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides that your body converts immediately into energy and does not store as fat. It has also been proven to lower cholesterol levels!

Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies by @jesselwellness #peppermint #dairyfree

Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies are soft and chewy with chocolate chips and minty deliciousness. They are made with oats which are high in fibre to slow the digestion of the sugars into your bloodstream. They also have coconut oil and almond butter as a source of healthy fat. The protein from the almond butter, along with the fat, will help to make these more filling.

Gingerbread Snowflakes

These are the best for cookie decorating! They have all the traditional gingerbread flavours but they are sweetened with dates which are high in fibre and nutrients. My kids love these cookies! The recipe is exclusive to my Healthy Dairy-Free Desserts Cookbook. It contains over 30 healthy dessert recipes (with stunning images) that you can enjoy without feeling deprived!

Candy Cane Blondies by @JesseLWellness #blondies

Candy Cane Blondies

Candy Cane Blondies are moist, minty and taste like the holidays. Now, this isn’t the healthiest recipe around but ‘tis the season, so let’s be naughty. I do use coconut sugar in this recipe which has a slightly lower glycemic index than regular sugar and contains more nutrients.
