Benefits of Meditating In the Morning
I love to meditate, it is extremely grounding and a really great way to reduce stress. Stress causes a huge drain on our energy levels because it lowers thyroid function. When thyroid hormones are low, your cells aren’t able to produce energy as efficiently. Your metabolism will suffer as well. We all know that creating a positive routine is key to keeping sane during the daily morning rush. However, very few of us take the time to breathe and anticipate the day ahead and can, therefore, end up frazzled and tired before we even step out the front door. Regular morning meditation can change all of that.
Here are some of the best reasons we should all include meditating in the morning to our routine.
Wake up!
Although it may sound counter intuitive, an early morning meditation session can actually help you to wake up. Controlled breathing and correct posture increase your body’s blood flow and raise energy levels. Whether you ascribe to the spiritual meaning behind traditional Buddhist meditation or not, there is something incredible about meditating while the world is waking up around you.
Stay healthy
Meditation increases blood flow, as we already know, and controlled breathing helps to lower heart rates. A regular morning meditation is said to decrease feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress by focusing regularly on the repetition of calming, positive thoughts. Combining meditation with a regular yoga routine can also help increase your overall fitness level through exercise.
Focus
Many people use morning meditation sessions to start fresh every day with intentional focus on daily goals and aspirations. By clearing your mind of stressful thoughts and endless lists and by focusing on the day ahead, you can set the day in motion with positive momentum and concise goals.
Create positive habits
The repetition of any particular exercise or action quickly creates habits that are difficult to break. By consciously choosing to make morning meditation a recurring event, you are creating a positive habit that has multiple physical and emotional benefits.
Now that you know why you should be meditating every morning, the next step is to put it into action. Start as you mean to go on and meditate every morning for a happier, healthier you.
