Engage Your Team With An Online Healthy Cooking Class
I’ve put together two delicious spring cooking classes for your team to enjoy this month. In these exciting cooking classes, we’re going to focus on some very powerful (and underused) whole foods that support your body while we finally transition out of winter and into a new season!
Online Healthy Cooking Class #1: Pineapple Fish Tacos
Cinco de Mayo is fast approaching! So why not celebrate this special holiday as a team? Sip on a Pineapple Lime Mocktail while together we make my yummy Fish Tacos with crispy fish, sweet pineapple salsa, and even creamy guacamole. If your team has been itching for a Taco Tuesday, this is just the thing to satisfy them!
Why We Love Pineapple
Pineapple is like a little dose of sunshine while we wait for April showers to clear! It also has tons of health benefits! This acidic, sunny fruit always puts a pep in my step when I’m feeling a bit sluggish (and not just because it’s filled with fibre).
Pineapples are filled to the brim with healthy nutrients like Vitamin C! Vitamin C can help to improve immunity (hello allergy season), and also helps with tissue repair. One cup of chopped pineapple will get you roughly 79 mg of Vitamin C, which for most people is their entire daily recommended value!
That same cup of pineapple also gives you all of your daily required manganese! Manganese helps to support your immune system, bone growth, blood clotting, and hormone regulation. Pineapple also contains essential B vitamins to help your energy metabolism, as well as trace minerals like copper, potassium, and magnesium. It provides your gut with a heavy dose of fibre to keep things moving and to create a healthy, balanced gut microbiome. Now THAT’s a superfood!
Online Healthy Cooking Class #2: Must Love Miso
Miso is a delicious fermented paste with a salty umami flavour. Many of us know how yummy (and healthy) miso can be, but how do we actually use it in our cooking? Together in this online healthy cooking class, we’ll make Miso Butter Salmon with Green Beans, and a Miso Caramel Sauce for dessert. Your team will love expanding their culinary skills with this exciting underused ingredient!
What Makes Miso A Health Food?
Probably one of the coolest things about miso is that it’s incredibly salt-heavy, but doesn’t increase blood pressure as you might expect! It actually has been shown to have no effect on blood pressure at all! There isn’t a clear explanation why yet, but scientists believe that the components of miso actually help to put the body into its relaxed state, preventing an increase in blood pressure or cardiovascular function. Cool right?
Aside from stabilizing blood pressure, miso is a powerhouse probiotic. It’s made from fermented soybeans and grains, and contains many gut-supporting enzymes and microbes. Fermented foods are so important to our health! To learn more about them, check out this month’s Guide To Gut Health Lunch & Learn!
Miso has also been shown to increase the number of anti-DNA immunoglobulin M antibodies, which help to prevent autoimmune diseases. Learn more about this exciting fermented food in this online healthy cooking class!
Why Integrated Wellness Is Vital In The Workplace
The well-being of employees is an organization’s professional responsibility, it’s not just personal. So many progressive team leaders are embracing the call for wellness to be integrated into the workplace as a means to boost both employee health and productivity. My virtual team-building events like online healthy cooking classes and Lunch & Learns are the perfect way to bring a dose of wellness into the office. My presentations help you to get to know which health topics are on your team’s mind, and create a work environment that strategizes to address them. When wellness is in the workplace, team members feel prioritized and cared for, leading to better performance and higher retention. Who doesn’t want that!?
