5 Beautiful Benefits of Outdoor Yoga

You know that I love yoga, so today I’m sharing a guest post on the benefits of outdoor yoga!

Yoga is excellent for the whole person, working on the mind, body and soul. It is hard to think how yoga could possibly be improved upon. Enjoying yoga in the outdoors offers exactly that extra benefit! Let us take a look at some of the beautiful benefits of outdoor yoga.

Benefits of Outdoor Yoga

Naturally Top Up Your Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin. While it is possible to get it from our food, the best source of vitamin D is the sun. All we need to do is spend some time in the sun with as much skin showing that is comfortable. Our skin gets to work, transforming the sun’s rays into vitamin D.

Comfort Zone

Taking normal everyday activities into the outdoors is a great way to mix things up and take you out of your comfort zone. You will find that the familiar exercises feel different when they are performed outdoors. No matter whether it is in the relative privacy of your own garden or fully in the public gaze in a park. Once you have taken your courage into your hands, you will find yourself able to do things that you might otherwise have felt too shy or self-conscious to try!

Being in Nature

Yoga is all about mindfulness and restoring harmony with Nature. What better way to do this than being immersed in and surrounded by nature? There is something within even the most urban human that responds to being surrounded by trees, plants and birdsong. You will find yourself more easily able to sink into the mindfulness that accompanies a good yoga workout. Afterwards, you will feel refreshed and restored: at peace in your very core.

Fresh Air

Getting fresh air is not always an easy thing to do: time can be an issue as we rush from work to home, with perhaps a quick workout squeezed in on the way. A workout in the confines of a mirrored gym can work your body, but it does not really give you the benefit of fresh air: feeling the wind on your face and enjoying the benefits of working out far from traffic fumes, air conditioning and perfumed air-fresheners can feel almost luxurious!

It’s Fun!

The last reason for getting into the outdoors is the best one! It is fun! You may be a serious professional in your day job, and a responsible parent or carer at home, but as soon as you layout your Manduka travel yoga mat onto the soft springy grass, your inner child will return and glory in the chance to get you rolling around on the ground once again! You may find the exercises coming easier, and mistakes worrying you less than they usually do as you tumble over onto the grass or wobble in a tricky pose. Being outdoors can unlock something inside you, allowing you to embrace the sheer joyfulness and silliness of being outside and exercising your body!
